Our Story

RIVAY didn’t begin as a jewelry brand.

Our story reaches back to Wanlonghe, a tradition rooted in 1839 and connected to the metalworking heritage of the Forbidden City. Today, Wanlonghe continues to study, preserve, and carry forward these techniques—from filigree and enamel to traditional gold and silver craftsmanship.

RIVAY grew from that same lineage, but chose a different direction.

We’ve always believed that tradition should be more than something preserved behind glass, faithfully reproduced, or confined to a familiar idea of what “Eastern” design is supposed to look like.

If something truly has life in it, it should be able to live again—in a new time, in a new place, and in a new form.

That is what we are trying to do.

We work with materials, techniques, and sensibilities shaped by the ancient East, but we don’t want every piece to look like an artifact from the past. Jade, pearls, silver, natural gemstones, and details drawn from traditional craftsmanship can all be reimagined—lighter, more effortless, more modern, and more at home in the world today.

Wanlonghe reminds us where these traditions came from. Heyi Culture helps keep them alive.

RIVAY asks a different question: What can the beauty of the ancient East become today?

We don’t think there is one fixed answer.

RIVAY is our way of finding it.
